THERAPy

The Importance of Therapy

Life is full of challenges — some expected, others that take us by surprise. Whether you're navigating a major life transition, coping with anxiety or depression, healing from trauma, or simply feeling stuck, therapy offers a safe and supportive space to explore your thoughts and emotions with the guidance of a trained professional.

Our therapy sessions are tailored to your specific needs, and provide a comfortable and open environment to foster communication and growth. Therapy begins with understanding you and your concerns, and is a collaborative relationship focused on addressing those concerns. Together, we will work to identify and change the mental, emotional, and/or behavioral patterns that are preventing you from feeling your best.

What can therapy treat

Therapy can be utilized to treat a specific problem or situation that has recently occurred, or life-long struggles they need care and support for, and/or it can be a means of self-discovery, growth, and improved well-being. There are a myriad of reasons why people seek therapy, a few of which include:

  • Stress and Anxiety

  • Sadness or Depression

  • Grief and Loss

  • ADHD

  • Difficulties with Relationships

  • Communication Skills

  • Emotional Abuse or Co-Dependency

  • Parenting or Co-Parenting

  • Self-Discovery and Self-Identity

  • Self-Esteem and Self-Acceptance

  • Coping with Chronic Illness

  • Addiction

  • Autism and Neurodivergent Traits

  • PTSD, cPTSD, and other trauma

  • Work Problems

  • Anger Management

  • Life Transitions

Why Therapy Matters

Therapy is more than just talking — it's a powerful, evidence-based process that helps you gain insight, develop coping strategies, and make meaningful, lasting changes in your life. With the right support, you can learn to better understand yourself, improve your relationships, and strengthen your ability to handle life’s stressors.

Research consistently shows that therapy can:

  • Reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma and other mental health issues

  • Improve emotional regulation and resilience

  • Decrease defensiveness and anger

  • Enhance relationships and communication skills

  • Increase self-awareness, confidence, self-forgiveness, and self-esteem

  • Reduce feelings of guilt and shame

  • Support self-acceptance, healthier decision-making, and personal growth

  • Improve interpersonal boundaries

  • Increase coping skills

  • Improve job performance

Therapeutic Approaches

Your experiences, values, and goals are uniquely your own — and effective therapy should reflect that. I take a personalized, integrative approach drawing from evidence-based methods grounded in research and clinical expertise to provide care that is thoughtful, flexible, and responsive to your needs. Whether you’re seeking therapy as an individual or as a couple, we’ll work together to create a path forward that is grounded in compassion, collaboration, and respect for your lived experience. Therapy offers a space to better understand yourself, build on your strengths, and move toward meaningful change — at a pace that feels right for you.

My integrative approach to therapy includes, but is not limited to:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected. By identifying and shifting unhelpful patterns, CBT can help reduce anxiety, depression, and other challenges while building practical tools for everyday life.

Trauma-Informed Therapy

If you’ve experienced trauma, therapy must be grounded in safety, trust, and empowerment. A trauma-informed approach respects your pace, honors your story, and helps you heal without re-traumatization. It provides a sensitive, supportive framework that acknowledges the impact of trauma on your emotional and physical well-being. Trauma focused treatments and modalities are use thoughtfully and with consideration to your specific needs.

Psychodynamic Therapy

This insight-oriented approach explores how past experiences, unconscious patterns, and relational dynamics influence your present. It’s helpful for gaining deeper self-understanding and addressing long-standing emotional struggles.

Strength-Based Therapy

Rather than focusing solely on what’s “wrong,” strength-based therapy highlights your inner resources, resilience, and abilities. This empowering perspective helps you build confidence, self-awareness, and long-term coping strategies.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness techniques promote present-moment awareness, emotional regulation, and stress reduction. These practices can be woven into therapy to support calm, clarity, and resilience.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

Your cultural background, identity, and lived experiences matter in the therapy room. I strive to provide a safe, inclusive, and affirming space for clients of all racial, cultural, gender, and sexual identities. Therapy should honor who you are — without assumption or judgment.

Attachment-Based Therapy

Our earliest relationships shape how we connect with others. This approach helps uncover patterns that may be affecting your ability to trust, feel secure, or maintain healthy relationships. By exploring these dynamics in a safe, supportive environment, we can work toward building stronger emotional bonds, both with yourself and with those around you.

Other Approaches

If you are seeking a specific therapeutic approach or technique, please reach out. I welcome any questions regarding the services I provide and I’m committed to offering care that aligns with my professional training, expertise, and ethical standards of practice.

You Don’t Have to Do It Alone

While family and friends can offer support, a licensed psychologist brings clinical training, expertise, objectivity, and evidence-based techniques tailored to your unique needs. Therapy is a collaborative journey — you're not given quick fixes, but rather the tools and insight to move forward with confidence and clarity.

Accessible Care, Wherever You Are

At West Hollywood Psychology we offer secure, confidential Telehealth sessions so you can access professional support from the comfort of your home — or wherever you feel safe. Our HIPPA-compliant program allows you to connect from your computer, tablet, or smartphone. Whether you're seeking help for a specific issue or simply want to grow and better understand yourself, therapy can be a transformative experience.

Confidentiality

Everything that you discuss in therapy is kept confidential and private. No one will be informed of your participation in counseling without your specific request and a written release of information.

However, there are legal limitations to confidentiality. These limitations include, but are not limited to: reporting child, elder and dependent adult abuse; when the client poses an imminent danger to themselves or another person; or when there is a court order issued by a judge. If confidentiality (or its limitations) is a concern for you, I will be happy to discuss your concerns further.

Legnth of treatment

The length of therapy varies based on each person or couple’s reasons for beginning therapy, the severity of the problem or symptoms, the identified goals for treatment, and your preference for pace and depth of work. Some clients benefit from just a few focused sessions, while others choose to engage in therapy over a longer period of time for ongoing support and growth. If you have questions or concerns about the potential duration of treatment, let me know and we can discuss a plan that works for you.

As part of my commitment to transparency, my fees and insurance policy are listed below. Further, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate that outlines the expected cost of services based on your treatment needs. Contact me for more information.

insurance

West Hollywood Psychology does not accept any insurance plans at this time. However, we do provide services as an out-of-network provider and many clients choose to use their out-of-network benefits. I am happy to provide you with an insurance reimbursement statement (aka “Super Bill”) for you to submit to your insurance company, should you choose to use insurance to pay for your therapy.

Using out-of-network insurance benefits can greatly reduce the cost of therapy. If you’ve never used out-of-network benefits to pay for therapy, here’s an overview of the process:

Typically, insurance plans reimburse anywhere from 40 – 70% of the total fee. Therefore, depending on the reimbursement rate, your net cost per session may be anywhere from $83 to $165 for a 50-minute individual session.

Testimonials

Jen is absolutely amazing! I have tried a few psychologists in the past and I was always disappointed because no one really got to me- didn't really understand what I was going through and always focused on the wrong things. The chemistry I have with Jen is amazing- every word and phrase she says impacts me in such a positive way. She is clever, intuitive and knows exactly what to focus on and how to help you get through your challenges. I was always afraid to try out a therapist because I thought that it meant that something was wrong with me. On the contrary! I found out that you need a therapist even when something is right with you! haha. Jen is caring, genuine and fun to talk to. She is professional yet very welcoming and has a warm attitude that makes you comfortable sharing with her all your issues without feeling embarassed, inferior or out of your comfort zone. I wouldn't look any further if you're really looking to make a positive change in your life. Jen is the best, period.

HIGHLY recommended!!! … Dr. Oeding is an AMAZING therapist. She has an extensive educational repertoire as well as other valuable experience in varied settings. Her calm demeanor, attentiveness, simplified recommendations, insightful feedback, and overall presence are apparent immediately upon meeting with her. I went through the lowest period in my life recently and Dr. Oeding has provided genuine and caring guidance that I still use regularly. She has an innate ability to dissect the root of problems promptly while allowing clients the opportunity to self-reflect on issues and work in unison towards healthy and constructive solutions.
